Nothing Beets Summer

Picture doesn't capture the beautiful color or how juicy these beets look! Farmer Willie is in full swing...
I love the long days this time of year.  It seemed so fortunate that summer solstice fell on a weekend. Connor and I decided to host a little summer solstice party! As usual, our guest list was huge. We had to cut it down to the essential friends.
Sweet/Spicy Grilled Chicken, Corn, Grilled Romaine Salads...
Guess which piece of pie was Marie's?  That's right...and in true Dad-Jr-style, even more was added as I ate.

The weather actually cooperated and it was a decent temp (probably upper 70's - which is still too cold, but considering we normally top out at 60 something, I was happy) plus the sun is shining this weekend.  Sun + a little warmth = Happy Marie. And happy cats...

So happy I even shared some of my whipped cream (from Mark-bear pancakes with strawberries) with fatboy Lefty.
The cats get high with a little help from their friend... Willie the cat whisperer.
Passed out.
Potatoes from the garden too!  And we are getting snap peas and carrots already.
We want to do a post about our time in Costa Rica...but due to some picture issues, we will have to wait a bit longer... Hopefully soon though. It was definitely worth a 5 year wait.
Here is one of the beautiful sunsets that we saw on our nearly deserted beach.
So, to close this post, we would like to make a toast to the lovely Mawtha Sue and Papa Chuck.  We are celebrating their 41st anniversary and wishing we could be with them.
A batch of delicious nectarine mojitos.
Cheers to you, Mom and Dad! We love you!
